Jalisco Hosts 2026 CONADE National Paralympic Games with Over 4,500 Athletes

The 2026 CONADE National Paralympic Games have commenced in Guadalajara, Jalisco, marking a significant milestone as it is the first time the entire event is hosted at a single venue. Running from September 20 to October 10, the Games have attracted over 4,500 para-athletes from all 32 federal entities of Mexico, along with teams from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). The opening events took place at the CODE López Mateos Sports Center, featuring competitions in Para Triathlon, Para Duathlon, and Para Aquathlon.

Jalisco has made an impressive start, winning the overall Para Triathlon title with a remarkable tally of 14 gold medals and one silver, setting a new record for the discipline. Óscar Vélez, alongside his guide Adrián Rojas, secured the first gold medal for Jalisco in the PTVI1 Duathlon category. Vélez expressed pride in contributing to the state's medal count and encouraged other young athletes with disabilities to pursue their dreams in sports. This year's Games are particularly significant for Jalisco as the local delegation, consisting of 317 athletes, aims to achieve its 21st consecutive overall National Paralympic Games championship.

Local sports authorities anticipate capturing a total of 224 gold medals across all events, building on Jalisco's record-setting performance from the 2025 Paralympic Games where they secured 494 total medals, including 283 golds. The state’s consistent excellence in adapted sports has established it as a leading force nationally. The Games are being conducted across various specialized facilities in the greater Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, including CODE Revolución, CODE Alcalde, and the Metropolitan Aquatic Center.

Organizers emphasize the importance of providing adequate sports facilities and support for athletes, coaches, and families, ensuring a comprehensive experience beyond just competition and medals. This initiative also showcases Jalisco as a capable host of major national sporting events.
